چکیده
Abstract. The streamflow of the Yellow River (YR) is strongly affected by human activities like irrigation and dam operation. Many attribution studies have focused on long-term trends streamflows, yet contributions these anthropogenic factors to fluctuations not been well quantified with fully mechanistic models. This study aims (1) demonstrate whether global land surface model ORCHIDEE (ORganizing Carbon Hydrology in Dynamic EcosystEms) able simulate streamflows this complex rivers using a generic parameterization for (2) preliminarily quantify roles operation monthly YR from 1982 2014 newly developed module an offline model. Validations observed near outlet demonstrated that performances improved notably incrementally considering (mean square error (MSE) decreased 56.9 %) (MSE another 30.5 %). Irrigation withdrawals were found substantially reduce river approximately 242.8±27.8×108 m3 yr?1 line independent census data (231.4±31.6×108 yr?1). Dam does change mean our model, but it impacts seasonality, more than seasonal precipitation. By only schemes, reproduce water storage changes two large reservoirs, LongYangXia LiuJiaXia (correlation coefficient ? 0.9). Moreover, other commonly neglected factors, such as contribution multiple medium/small dominance districts (e.g., Hetao Plateau), special management policies during extreme years, are highlighted study. Related processes should be integrated into models better project future resources under climate optimize adaption strategies.

Predictability of Streamflow Processes of the Yellow River
Understanding the predictability of a streamflow process is important for making decision for flood control and water management. However not much attention has been paid to the predictability study of streamflow processes so far. Predictability may be broken down into two categories: (1) model predictability and (2) potential predictability. The widely used model performance measure, coefficie...
متن کاملAnalyzing streamflow changes: irrigation-enhanced interaction between aquifer and streamflow in the Republican River basin
Groundwater-fed irrigation has altered surface and groundwater interactions in the Republic River basin (RRB) in the midwestern United States, where agriculture heavily depends on irrigation. The decreasing flow trend recorded at the RRB gauging station since the 1950s reflects the synthetical effect of dynamic interactions between surface water and groundwater systems, which has been enhanced ...
متن کاملTemporal Variation of Streamflow, Sediment Load and Their Relationship in the Yellow River Basin, China
Variation of streamflow and sediment load in the Yellow River basin has received considerable attention due to its drastic reduction during the past several decades. This paper presents a detailed investigation on the changes of streamflow and sediment load from 1952 to 2011 using monthly observations at four gauging stations along the Yellow River. The results show significant decreasing trend...
متن کاملMultifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis of Streamflow in the Yellow River Basin, China
Multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA) can provide information about inner regularity, randomness and long-range correlation of time series, promoting the knowledge of their evolution regularity. The MFDFA are applied to detect long-range correlations and multifractal behavior of streamflow series at four hydrological stations (Toudaoguai, Longmen, Huangfu and Ganguyi) in the main ...
متن کاملVariation of Natural Streamflow since 1470 in the Middle Yellow River, China
Nowadays, as the available water resources throughout the World are becoming depleted, in order to manage and plan water resource better, more and more attention is being paid into the fluctuating characteristics of water discharges. However, the preexisting research was mainly focused on the last half century. In this paper, the natural streamflow observed since 1470 at the Sanmenxia station i...
